Manufacturer (UCC) ID - This 7-digit value is required to be set up in your account to create accurate labels. This value is contained within your UPC product codes, which are required by your retailer. To enter this value, log into the Trade Gateway and from the home page click on Account Maintenance. From there, select the Organization / Contact information option.
Vendors requiring additional information or an ID can access the GS1US website: http://www.gs1us.org/ and on the home page, click on the link "I Need a U.P.C. Bar Code" for the online application.
Label Stationary - The Trade Gateway supports printing of UCC 128 labels on any standard Laser Printer. Labels can be printed in letter (2 labels per page) or Legal (4 labels per page)
Please note that initially only the letter format will be supported. You will be advised when the legal format will be supported.
We have recommended stationary for each format below.
- Letter Format - 1 Label Per Page - Thermal Printer - We recommend using the manufacture's suggested labels
- From the Start button of your Windows Computer, select Settings / Printers and Faxes
- The Printers and Faxes window should pop-up. Click on File (at the top left hand of the window) and select the Server Properties option.
- The Print Server Properties window should pop-up. Halfway down the window is a check box with Create A New Form option.
- Click on the checkbox and enter / select the following information:
- Form Name: TGW Thermal Printer 4 by 6
- Units: English
- Width: 4:00in
- Height: 6:00in
- Printer Margin (Left, Right, Top, Bottom): 0in
- Click on the SAVE FORM button and then click on Okay button to exit the window
- Note: this will have to be done for every Computer/Server that you print labels from.
- Letter Format - 2 Labels Per Page - We recommend: Avery 5526 Durable

- Legal Format - 4 Labels Per Page - We recommend: Bar Code Graphics, Inc BC-04LGL, smudge proof Labels 4 X 6
Printer Setup and Generating a Test Label - The Trade Gateway enables you to generate UCC 128 labels via a plug-in that is integrated with your Internet Browser. To install this plug-in and generate a test label please click here.
If users experience difficulties or errors with the printing functionality, please try the following two links. (Users must have have local admin rights on the computer for the links to work. For details on how to check this, please contact your network administrator). You may also want to try to restart your browser or your computer.
If there are still difficulties, please make sure of the following:
- 1) Make sure the user has local admin rights for the computer. For details on how to check this, please contact your network administrator.
- 2) Check for security software installed - Antivirus, spyware or popup blockers could cause problems as well. For details on how to check this, please contact your IT specialist.
- 3) Check the browser - They should be using the latest version of Internet Explorer, version 8.x and above. The application does not work for Mozilla Firefox or Chrome.
- 4) Check to make sure that any ActiveX or Scripting settings is enabled in the browser. For details on how to check this, please consult your IT specialist.
If the labels are not sized correctly and printing smaller/larger than expected:
- 1) Check to make sure that in Internet Explorer (IE), from the Menu bar, under File and Page Setup the feature "Shrink to Fit" is not checked (i.e. it is turned off)
- 2) Check to make sure that the regional measurement is set to U.S. (Windows Control panel, Regional and Language Options, select Customize, set Measurement System to U.S.)

- What kind of internet connection is being used? Dial-up, DSL/Cable, T1 etc.
- What operating system is being used? (XP Pro, XP Home, 2000, etc.)
- If XP, what Service Pack is being used? Is the XP firewall in effect?

Printing labels to a PDF file - In order to print the labels to a PDF file, please go to Cute PDF (http://www.cutepdf.com/products/cutepdf/writer.asp) to download and install the Cute PDF writer. Once the PDF writer has been installed, please select the PDF writer as your default printer in your browser settings. All print jobs will now go to a PDF.
